EXTERNAL SALES REPRESENTATIVE

LOCATION: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
THE ROLE:
Reporting to the State Manager, this field-based role is focused on driving growth in product and sales revenue across a defined territory. Regular travel within the state will be required. You’ll work closely with sales and project teams to pursue new leads and gather insights on current and upcoming opportunities within the region.
Your primary objective will be to achieve strong sales performance across a broad range of industrial electromechanical solutions. Success in the role will depend on developing a solid understanding of the company’s full product and systems offering.
The sales strategy is built around meeting the needs of end-users by maintaining and expanding sales channels—primarily in the OEM sector, with additional focus on EPCM engineering firms and accredited partners where relevant. This role includes managing existing accounts while proactively identifying and converting new business opportunities.
You’ll collaborate with the internal sales team to deliver accurate, timely responses to all client quotations, tenders, and enquiries. Consistent follow-up of all opportunities and quotes is expected, using the company’s sales tools for tracking and reporting. Coordination with the internal order management team is also essential to ensure smooth transitions and successful delivery of secured projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Build relationships with key decision-makers through regular visits to prospective clients, increasing market visibility and awareness.

Maintain and grow high-priority existing accounts in alignment with sales targets, as directed by the State Manager.

Contribute to the development of strategic business plans aimed at driving sales growth.

Represent the organisation at meetings with OEMs, end users, engineering firms, and partners, as well as at industry events and tradeshows.

Support the development of sales channels and partner networks to ensure timely product availability and service support for end-users.

Submit accurate trip reports and maintain detailed customer profiles to support strategic planning.

Verify and clarify customer order details to ensure smooth processing and delivery.

Assist with preparing and following up on tenders and sales proposals, providing timely feedback to management.

Collaborate with internal teams to gather market intelligence and track project activity within the territory.

Adhere to company policies, quality procedures, and health and safety guidelines.

Perform additional duties as required, within the scope of experience and responsibilities of the role.

Work towards defined performance targets as part of the organisation’s review and development process.
YOUR PROFILE:
The ideal candidate will hold a relevant electrical or mechanical certificate or diploma, or alternatively possess 2–3 years of experience in a similar technical sales role, and must have a valid driver’s license for work-related travel. A strong background in customer-focused technical sales is essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. The successful applicant will be results-driven, with a demonstrated ability to meet sales targets, solve problems analytically, and deliver engaging presentations. While not mandatory, qualifications such as a business degree or diploma, prior experience with rotating machinery, familiarity with IEC and Australian standards, and a background in electrical product supply will be considered advantageous.
