AREA SALES MANAGER - INSTRUMENTATION

LOCATION: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

THE ROLE:

Our client is seeking a results-driven Area Sales Manager to lead product sales with their OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) customers. This role is centred on proactive customer engagement in the field, with a strong focus on identifying and securing business from both existing and new clients. You will be supported by a talented local team, including product management and internal sales/customer service functions. In addition, you’ll have access to world-class offshore resources such as R&D capabilities, product and application engineering, market sector specialists, and comprehensive marketing support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Meeting and exceeding annual sales and order intake targets to deliver consistent year-on-year revenue growth.

  • Building and maintaining a robust, CRM-driven opportunity pipeline that reflects progress and supports the longer sales cycles common in OEM business.

  • Managing long-term customer relationships through regular visits, networking, and prompt service responses.

  • Understanding customer needs and delivering tailored technical and commercial proposals that meet their requirements.

  • Collaborating across global teams to develop customised product solutions, including functional samples for trials.

  • Overseeing multiple end-to-end product-related projects, keeping customers informed of key developments.

  • Monitoring customer product lifecycles, R&D timelines, and future application needs.

  • Staying informed on market trends and aligning these with existing or potential new product offerings.

  • Maximising sales opportunities through cross-selling across the full product portfolio.

  • Continuing to develop technical and commercial expertise through online learning and peer-led training.

  • Travelling regularly within NSW, with occasional interstate and overseas trips.

YOU:​

We are looking for an experienced sales professional who brings the following skillsets and experience:

  • Australian residency, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in selling industrial products, ideally instrumentation or related technology solutions.

  • Proven ability to drive business growth through strategic customer account planning and proactive market approaches that unlock new opportunities.

  • Strong analytical and collaborative skills to identify new target customers or industry opportunities and qualify them for follow-up.

  • Capability to translate customer needs into well-reasoned business cases, followed by the creation of technical and commercial solutions that fully meet requirements.

  • Comfortable working with offshore manufacturing sites and overseeing the development of customised products from concept through to production.

  • Strong sales skills in presenting technical and commercial solutions, addressing exceptions, and closing deals.

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in ERP systems (SAP, D-365, etc.) and the Microsoft Office suite, plus familiarity with CRM strategy and usage.

  • A self-motivated approach with a strong focus on planning and executing daily activities that deliver measurable revenue results.

  • A positive attitude and high energy levels.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

A tertiary qualification in engineering (mechanical/electrical) or equivalent industrial instrumentation experience.
